a cup of nostalgia

I have a bad habit of buying pretty little trinkets to decorate my room while the more necessary task of cleaning it lies forgotten. However, I do think that these teacups, baskets, and boxes will eventually become USEFUL because I intend to use them to organize my jewelry and store other small items.

Anyways, I couldn't help but set up all my thrift store purchases and take some pictures because they just all go together so nicely (yet another way to procrastinate from doing any real cleaning)...

I gave the gorgeous gold and turquoise teacup to a friend for her birthday (it's actually a rare find that's worth $40+). The other teacup is my own, which I use to hold some of my rings. Most of these boxes and baskets were under $3 so they're really inexpensive.

side notes: I didn't find all these items all on one trip. These are all collected from different thrift stores over time. And of course, these are just SOME of the decor items in my room - I only put together the ones that had a kind of shabby chic feel. My room isn't as girly as these pictures show and I think it would look like a CREEPY DOLLHOUSE if all my decor was like this.

lesson of the day: thrift for cute boxes IN MODERATION, people.

a tribute to THE ICE-CREAM BUN

On July 1st, I went kayaking at Deep Cove...
After kayaking, we went to Londsdale Quay to walk around. Okay, SIDE NOTE... for YEARS I thought Quay was pronounced "kway" when actually it sounds like "key". Did ANYONE have the same problem? or is it just me?! haha

When we got to THE QUAY, we found the most AMAZING THING KNOWN TO MANKIND...
THE ICE-CREAM BUN.
It's at this place called The Coffee Bun... Basically, they have this coffee bun that's kinda crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside... AND they fill it with vanilla ICE-CREAM with chocolate bits. PURE GOODNESS.
Plus they have buns on the wall, which is a bonus.
They also had this poster that gave pretty good information about what kind of teas to order. Gotta get myself some more blueberry tea so I'll feel less... OLD.
So if you're in the Londsdale Quay area, YOU HAVE TO GO TRY IT. See? I even took a picture of the shop so you can look for it. No excuses! Go and experience the AMAZINGNESS (I'm even making up words on behalf of the ice-cream bun).
The owners told us that The Coffee Bun is originally from Korea, and this is the first store that they've opened outside of Korea!
There were six of us so we ordered a couple ice-cream buns and custard-filled buns, and we started eating outside of the shop. I'm pretty sure we attracted more customers because a bunch of people saw us eating and went in to investigate...

My next goal in life is to convince the store owners to hire me as a promoter. Ideal job description: to loiter outside the premises of the store eating an ice-cream bun while loudly proclaiming how good it is. Then again, I already did that for free...

hi! meet my FACE.

Okay so, some people have been saying to me, "Why do you hide your face on your blog all the time? It's weird."  Well at first, I hid my face for privacy reasons because my future career/line of work advises you not to post embarrassing things on Facebook or do stuff you'll regret. Well I realized that I don't post anything incriminating on this blog anyway (at best, they'll just think I have a strange sense of humor), and I'm not doing anything here that I'll regret... so I finally decided...

Since this is a blog where I share my life adventures, I wanted to make it a little more personal and show my FACE in unflattering pictures such as these, where my eyes are closed...
where I'm posing awkwardly in the middle of the road...
and where I'm trying to take a happy jumping picture but end up looking sad.
Okay in my defense, I just felt like jumping and skipping and prancing around because it was such a nice day! My brother decided to join in on my jumping extravaganza... but my dad failed to capture our success... so at the end of the day, we just looked like FOOLS.
Oh and by the way, the whole time we were taking random pictures, my grandpa, grandma and aunt were laughing at us ... as was THAT GUY (below) who came out of his shop to cross his arms and stare at us WITHOUT SHAME. He stood there watching us the entire time even when we stared confusedly back at him, and only went into his store when we got in our car and drove away... creepy man.
Anyways, this is what goes down at a typical family lunch gathering...

But actually, I wanted to take pictures with my brother that day because I thought we matched so nicely with the grey + white + red + navy outfits (not planned)... and I wanted to show you guys my new red $4 bag - the latest addition to my collection of thrift store purchases! I love it because it adds colour to any outfit. (side note: I have been going thrift shopping lately and I'll probably post some of my other awesome finds tomorrow!) Okay, bye for now :)

DIY: because everyone wants to look like an ape.

It's time for another foolish-looking 5-minute costume idea.
One of my best friends was going to a costume party (where everyone is assigned a letter and they have to dress up as something that starts with that letter... GENIUS IDEA BY THE WAY!!). He was assigned the letter "A". We didn't have that much time so he needed something quick and easy.

And so... I suggested APE because it would be easy to make, but mostly because I knew it would be ridiculous and I just wanted to laugh at the hilarity of a sad-looking ape costume. This is how we made it:

Add a banana, and you're set to conquer the jungle! (One ridiculous pose at a time)...

Now I just hope my friend won't go all ANGRY APE when he sees this post. hahaha.

granville island adventure

I am absolutely in LOVE with Granville Island. It's the artsy part of Vancouver with unique little shops and a marketplace that is seriously food heaven. You'll always find awesome and random things such as...

the most AMAZING Almond Bear Claw Danishes
(filled with almond custard) at La Baguette & L'Echalote...
an entire store dedicated to broomsticks à la Harry Potter...
high-stacked cherry pyramids...
one lone box of yellow raspberries...
A strawberry-themed truck...
and... BLISS BALLS!! (uh... what are Bliss Balls, you ask?)
THESE are Bliss Balls.
Finally... (I saved the best for last)...
I did get one thing, at PAPER-YA, an awesome store that specializes in pretty paper...
I bought this giant one-piece floral print cut-out for $7.
I have great dreams for this piece of paper.
When I first saw this beautiful paper cut-out, I instantly thought of a great little project that I could create... and of course, when I get around to doing it, I will post the DIY here!

For now, you will just have to be content with my random pictures that showcase objects of interest such as BLISS BALLS. Seriously though, let me know if you go and try one...
