doodle of the day: henna inspirations

Today's doodle is inspired by Indian culture with its bright colours and elaborate henna designs. I'm still hopeful for a little Bollywood infusion when I get married next year! I just love all those colourful suits and saris, and if I had my way, every guest at our wedding would be wearing one. hahaha. even the guys... even the guys.

These pictures were from my good friend's wedding last year... I miss you weirdos!

Good Morning Starshine!

Today was one of those monthly Saturdays where we were called into work again. I must say it was a highly productive day for me. For one thing, I drew this doodle... recognize the quote?

Good Morning Starshine, the Earth says Helloooooooo!!!

Willy Wonka says it in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the Tim Burton version). It's one of my favourite quotes because it doesn't make any sense. haha.

Also, my coworker and I had a drawing challenge where we had to draw something with the theme "FAIRYTALE FIGHT" with a time limit of 30 minutes. I think we both spent the first 15 minutes thinking up overly-ambitious ideas then ended up scrapping them and coming up with something shoddy in the last 15 minutes. I think my artistic self-esteem was lowered with my failed attempt but here it is anyway. HAHA. I suppose it's not really a "fight" since the evil red ridinghood has somehow scheduled the impending doom of the poor wolf by way of brick clobbering, but I tried... haha. What a morbid interpretation, right? This image is pretty SAD... in more ways than one.

...and speaking of Little Red, here's another random doodle I did a few weeks ago. At first, the speech bubble for the cupcake was blank so I asked my coworkers to give fill in a quote, and one of them suggested, "I've lost my cherry".

So apparently I'm a pretty sheltered person and I didn't find out til later that that phrase meant losing your virginity. HAHAHAHAHAHA. So once again, another fairytale has been given sketchy undertones.

Really though, I'm pretty sure that all fairytales are secretly twisted and dark. Go read some of them again (the ORIGINAL versions) and you'll find that they're not really stories for kids...

life lately

It's time for another update of my life. haha. I've finally accumulated enough pictures to have a decent variety of randomness to share. Really, my life has mostly been work + work + more work, but there have been a few interesting outings here and there. So...here's what I've been up to lately.

I've been drawing cannibalistic animals...
...making tiger-esque snowflakes...
...and doodling on my fingers.
I've been eating some interesting things such as sushi with Pringles chips...
...giant chunks of pork knuckle (I felt like a caveman while eating it)...
chocolatey-sweet burger biscuits...
...transvestite Hello Kitty chips...
...unintentionally (or intentionally?) awkwardly-named seaweed "sheets"...
...and extremely shady-looking fish balls... (um, yes, they came like that).
Speaking of balls... ... ...
Moving on...
I've also seen some interesting products and displays in various Hong Kong malls...
like googley-eyed froggy floormats...

...(literally) "foot-in-mouth" socks...
...giant bunnies on crack... (with equally drugged-looking girl beside it)...
...the Mona Lisa made entirely out of real pieces of toast...
...and dangerous killer ponies.
That last picture was taken at IKEA. I'm wondering who the designer is behind their stuffed toy collection, because in my opinion, their dolls really don't look that appealing. Anyway, here's another random IKEA fact - did you know that each section has a "SPECIALIST"? (basically, a worker who only patrols that particular section...) and they each have a special title - such as KITCHEN SPECIALIST - written in big letters on the back of their uniform. Anyway, it was all fine and dandy until I saw a worker with the title "BEDROOM SPECIALIST". Somehow, that's just one of those names that needs to be revised to avoid awkward conversations that go down like this:

Random Acquaintance asking generic conversation-starter: "So what do you do for a living?"

Ikea Guy: "I'm a Bedroom Specialist."

*awkward silence*

Okay, clearly I've gone off topic. What have you all been up to lately? LET ME KNOW! I miss Vancouver! Send me pictures of weird things you've seen! haha. And if they're awesome enough, I'll post them.

new beginnings

I was just looking through some old folders on my computer and I came across this massive mehndi-inspired doodle which I almost forgot about. I did this last year during a 3-hour lecture. It's called multi-tasking haha...

But seriously, seeing this picture just reminded me of when I had more free time to draw and create (during University lectures haha). I actually miss going to school so much... it's easier to be a student than a teacher!... and of course I miss my hilarious ladies who made school so fun. These are the girls who persuaded me to start a blog in the first place. So you can thank them (or blame them... HAHA!) depending on what you think of my blog. hahaha.

Now we've all graduated and moved to different places and it's kinda sad because I miss being in that comfortable college bubble. Sometimes it's tough to act like a grown-up (haha, key word being "act") and have a real job. I am evidently in a nostalgic mood right now and clearly rambling. Anyway, this post is dedicated to my favourite lurkers from the dungeon... you girls accept me even though I'm crazy and you always motivate me to be less lazy! ;)
