DIY: Ferrero Rocher Jewelry Boxes

Since it's the season of getting a tonne of ferrero rocher chocolates, you might as well put that leftover box to good use. To be honest, it's a pretty nice plastic box. The one I have comes with a triangle-patterned cover and is perfect for storing some of my chunkier and fancier necklaces and bracelets. I don't know if this really constitutes as a DIY since you don't actually have to DO anything besides placing your jewelry into the box... HAHA. But I did fold a thick piece of black felt and place it on the bottom of the box for extra padding so that the jewelry wouldn't slide around. You could also use black velvet for a fancier look. So there you go... who needs to actually buy an expensive jewelry box!?!



Some other ferrero rocher boxes (usually the ones with multiple layers of chocolates) come with a golden tray that has multiple compartments. This is perfect for storing rings and small earrings. My mom actually does this with her rings, and it keeps everything separated and organized.

These jewelry organization ideas are great for me since I tend to always lose my rings. Now I have no more excuse for misplacing things.

 But I do have a new excuse for buying more ferrero rochers...

On Monday, my friend Amanda came back from Hong Kong. I was so excited for her to come over so we could hang out. She did come over. And we did hang out. By cleaning my room for FIVE HOURS!!! She literally put me to work right away and we worked for hours (with only a short Screamers break in the middle) and I finally began to see the carpet underneath the pigsty in which I dwell. Hopefully after this MASSIVE cleaning venture, a certain someone will never have to trip over my mess and fall flat on his face ever again ;) 

This is actually the second time Amanda has come over and forced me to clean my room. The last time, she came and vacuumed was over a year ago and admittedly, I did not do a good job of keeping it clean. But this time, I've promised her to maintain it so that her hard work will not have gone to waste. 

She hung/organized all my clothes and made me do laundry...

...and she even colour-coded all my tops!

Actually, at this point I was just taking pictures of her and laughing at the fact that she was actually vacuuming my room for the SECOND time. Look at those hyperspeed vacuuming skills.

I found out later that "cleaning Laura's room" had been on her TO-DO list from the very beginning. Evil. But truly, only a great friend would put up with my messiness disorder and I couldn't have cleaned my room without her help/motivation.

After 5+ hours, the job is not fully done... I still have a lot to do but I'm on my way to changing my crazy ways. When I am completely satisfied with it, I promise, I shall show you all a little room tour. =P 

a cup of nostalgia

I have a bad habit of buying pretty little trinkets to decorate my room while the more necessary task of cleaning it lies forgotten. However, I do think that these teacups, baskets, and boxes will eventually become USEFUL because I intend to use them to organize my jewelry and store other small items. 

Anyways, I couldn't help but set up all my thrift store purchases and take some pictures because they just all go together so nicely (yet another way to procrastinate from doing any real cleaning)...

I gave the gorgeous gold and turquoise teacup to a friend for her birthday (it's actually a rare find that's worth $40+). The other teacup is my own, which I use to hold some of my rings. Most of these boxes and baskets were under $3 so they're really inexpensive.

side notes: I didn't find all these items all on one trip. These are all collected from different thrift stores over time. And of course, these are just SOME of the decor items in my room - I only put together the ones that had a kind of shabby chic feel. My room isn't as girly as these pictures show and I think it would look like a CREEPY DOLLHOUSE if all my decor was like this.
