DIY: 5-minute planner personalization

I always like to personalize things. So when I bought a new planner with a boring cover, I immediately wanted to personalize it. I didn't have any craft supplies, but I did have a picture of me and Randy from Macau. So I cut it out to fit the size of the cover, drew some paper hearts, and stuck it on. Then I bought myself a giant roll of clear packaging tape (which is my favourite method of shoddy lamination). Seriously, it's such an easy way to self-laminate bookmarks and other small objects. I use it all the time because I'm too cheap to pay for actual laminating. haha.

So yah... this is an easy craft that anyone can do. I'm pretty happy with it... and it reminds me of home.  :)

i'm like a bird, i only fly away

I love birds. (Not real birds but fake ones... bird jewelry, paintings, prints, etc.) So when I found these vintage style necklaces in a Hong Kong mall for $3CDN each, I had to buy them.
Oh and I finally found a crochet/lace blazer - something I've been wanting for awhile now... plus a tiny hat with feathers and flowers, just for added extravagance.
AND... a bird ring. Can you tell I'm obsessed?
Oh and by the way, in my spare time I've been playing Angry Birds a lot. Anyway, all of this bird hunting made me want to draw something bird-themed. So today I decided to stay home for awhile and take some time out to DOODLE. This is what I came up with.
Since I'm living at my relative's place temporarily, I just used tape to stick them to the inside of the closet wall for now. Also, since they're like mini picture frames, I have yet to think of some inspirational/witty quotes to write inside them. Any suggestions?
Since I'm showcasing my bird addiction, here are some other vacation pictures of an area near Tsim Tsa Tsui where I just happen to be wearing my crochet blazer and posing with a giant birdcage.
If you look carefully in the last picture, I think that tiny white dot is a shooting star in the sky... or just a piece of dust. haha.

Anyway, I'm off to play more Angry Birds... and kill some more green piggies!!!

sweating like beasts in Macau

During our Hong Kong trip, we took a day trip to Macau. Here are some pictures. (Most of these were taken with my new SLR... until I ran out of batteries haha)... sidenote: none of these pictures have been photoshopped or corrected because I'm way too lazy but I think they turned out pretty well!
First, we went to this weird area where everything was deserted and empty. It was so hot I'm pretty sure I got heat stroke from walking around.
I think they tried to copy the Coliseum and other non-Asian type buildings.
It was a pretty good place for random pictures though... CHEESY RANDOM PICTURES.
(I like how in that last picture, my brother is in the reflection).
Afterwards, we went to this huge mall that was all Venetian themed...
...complete with a fake river with gondola rides where the rowers serenade you!
Family shot! One of the few normal ones...
Finally, after hours of walking we took a food break... with PLENTY of POTATOES!!! =D I have to admit that I was starting to get extremely cranky from hunger (one of my food moods again).
When my hunger beast was appeased, we continued our trek to the Historic Centre of Macau. Along the way, my brother's best friend - Freddy the Frog - found a giant field of lilypads to swim in.
If you ever visit Macau, this monument is one of those huge tourist destinations that you have to visit. We walked all the way to the top (the most exercise I've done in awhile)... seriously, we were all like sweaty beasts the entire day. Walking in Macau = hot Yoga!
Near the monument there's a small mountain on the right hand side that you can walk up and take beautiful views of the entire city. If you survived walking up all those stairs, it's worth it to walk up a bit more and see the view.
One of my random favourite pictures of the day is this one of me and Randy. My mom was clearly being a stalker when she took this shot.
Anyway, there's my quick photo update. I hope these vacation pictures are mildly interesting to you all but you know it's been hard for me to do more art-related posts with so many places to visit and things to see!

craft challenge!

Hello everyoneee! It's been awhile since I've posted but I'm still alive and surviving. I still don't have my own computer yet so I blame my bad blogging on that, among other things. I've been really busy actually and I haven't had as much time to draw or play music or create things as much as I'd like. So... today's post will be showcasing something SPECTACULAR that someone else has created!

Remember these random felt objects that I made awhile ago? I didn't have time to do anything with them...
So... before I left for Hong Kong, I gave these four felt objects to four creative girls and told them that while I was gone, they had one month to think of something to make using their felt flower or heart. I just thought this would be fun (forcing others to make things for my own amusement... haha) but of course they get to keep whatever they make at the end. I actually don't know if all of them have finished their mini masterpieces yet, but Angel was the first one to send me pictures of her creation. Here it is...

Angel's DUCT-TAPE WALLET.

I think it's absolutely awesome!

I love the teal - it's one of my favourite colours! I think it looks fabulous especially with all the pockets and zippers. It's definitely useable and durable too. Anyway, I hope this inspires you because I love seeing what other people make and sharing ideas like this.

If you're interested in my little craft challenge, let me know and I'll try to send you something random so you can make your own masterpiece! :)

my new toyfriend

Hello everyoneee! I'm still in Hong Kong and still surviving the heat. My computer officially died this week so I haven't really been able to go on the Internet much at all. But I did borrow my brother's MacBook Pro long enough to create this short and hopefully semi-interesting post! :) And... I did go out and buy a new $5 computer of my own...
In MUCH BETTER news, I reunited with Randolph who surprised me with an early birthday present...a Canon Rebel T2i! BEST PRESENT EVERRRR!!!!!!
We started experimenting with it right away. Here are some randoms!
So while my online blogging habits are temporarily delayed, it looks like I've got a new toy to keep me busy. I'm just learning how to use it but seriously, it's so much fun to experiment with! My next post shall be filled with beautiful pictures taken with my new camera. ;)
